"The Cosmonaut" is an personal story I came up with in my head and have decided to render like I would for a video game concept. Initially I was sketching out astronauts and retro futuristic landscapes then transitioned into an 8-bit retro look. The scrapped title screen was my first idea of an NES style Zelda adventure game where you would explore alien or human colonized worlds in the far future of the past. My vision for the style though is more in line with that of a modern 3rd person game but with cleaner simpler designs that would translate well into sprite work. Space and science are so grounded in reality today I felt the need to make everything feel a bit more fantastic and awe-inspiring. Honestly I'm having a lot of fun drawing and painting these and am seeing my spacesuit designs and overall style start to really hit the right notes. My goal is to design everything in a way that I could blend parts of the game from 8 bit to 3D smoothly without disrupting player immersion.
